Her written work has been produced and/or developed by the Roundabout, Village Theatre, O’Neill Center, the Abingdon, Greater Boston Stage Company, Florida Studio Theatre, Ars Nova, Barrow Group, Prospect Theatre, Weston Playhouse, Musical Theatre West, Goodspeed Opera House, and more, and is included in the Library of Congress’s Asian Pacific American Playwrights Collection. BRUCE JOHNSON works professionally in many different creative aspects of the arts. Based in New York City he is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker. He received his BFA in film production and communication studies with a minor in theatre from the University of Iowa. While studying there, his love of cinematography led to a love for photography, and he now travels the world shooting landscapes, architecture, candids, as well as shooting portraits, and doing graphic design work for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award nominated and winning artists. brucejohnsonphotography.com
Bruce edited and co-directed the award-winning feature length documentary TRANSCENDING – THE WAT MISAKA STORY, winning the “Emerging Eye Directorial Discovery Award” from the Roving Eye Documentary Film Festival and the “Gold Kahuna Award” from the Honolulu International Film Festival as well as being an official selection for various other film festivals, including being the Centerpiece Selection for Rightsfest NYC and the Opening Film for Houston APA. TRANSCENDING was also honored by being selected for inclusion in the Library of Congress and featured by the New York Knicks and Sports Illustrated. Bruce directed the short films RIDING OUT THE STORM winning Best Musical Film at the Golden Swan Zurich Film Festival, the Oniros Film Awards, Monza Film Festival, Reale Film Festival, and the New York International Film Awards (also awarded Best Director) and ALL AMERICAN EYES (“Audience Award” from the Waves International Film Festival). Additional directing projects include music videos for recording artists Rosemary Loar, Roosevelt André Credit, and the new musical, “Fusong”. As a photographer he won the color photography category for the Daily Iowan with his photo featured on the cover, and he also won an award for the Lend-A-Lomo competition at the International Center of Photography in NYC.
As a singer Bruce has sung in concerts all over the world. He is proud to debut his new album, IF NOT NOW, an acoustic reimagining of Pop, Jazz and R&B songs through a rockabilly/bluegrass lens, created with the help of talented musicians from We Banjo 3 and the Broadway and First National Touring Companies of COME FROM AWAY. Besides his own album, Bruce also produced the gospel album GET ON BOARD for Roosevelt André Credit, and the EP UNWRAPPING THE SUN for Christine Toy Johnson as well as the music and video for WE CHOOSE FREEDOM.
In the theatre, he was the lighting designer and production stage manager for the "Asian Americans on Broadway" concert series at the Brava Theatre and Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston, and also created video projection design for the award winning solo shows THE THREE SISTERS: JERSEY EDITION (United Solo Festival - winner Best Musical) and A LITTLE MORE BLUE (Abingdon Theatre), and sound design for the NYC workshops of A LITTLE MORE BLUE, THE KEENERS, INVISIBLE INK, and more. He has also worked as production stage manager for various workshops and productions across the country.

Bruce first came to New York as an actor where he appeared on Broadway as "Joe Gillis" opposite Elaine Paige in SUNSET BLVD. and as "Fyedka" in the national tour of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF with Theodore Bikel.​​
